RIP Google Search: 1998-2024

A look into a new AI-powered search product that's aiming for Google's head.

What is UP my Norms ✌️ Happy Monday!!

It’s another incredible week to learn about AI, and today we’re going to start with ANOTHER new tool that could radically shift the way we interact with the internet (yep, that’s just a normal Monday around here).

If this idea sounds familiar, you’re not going crazy – last Monday we talked about Arc Search, the incredible new ai-powered search product by The Browser Company – read about it here if you haven’t already, then go download it on your app store. You’re welcome! 😎

But today I want to turn from a new browser (the “vehicle” we use to look into the internet) to a new search engine itself. You ready? Ok let’s ride.

Long Live King Google

For most of us, the idea of what search engine we use is not even an active consideration – it’s all Google all the time, just the way they like it. The phrase “let me Google it” is so synonymous with searching the web for something, we don’t really even have a concept for it outside of Google.

Their dominance is a highly contentious topic, with the company actively being accused on monopolization and unfair business practices in courts across the EU right now. is mostly because Google was first and has remained the best in search for so long. Founded in 1998, they essentially built the highways of the internet before the internet was really even fully developed.

This search dominance has created an equal level of market power and control. Their roads, their rules. But it seems their dominance might not be set in stone…

Introducing Perplexity: Find What You Need, Faster

Perplexity transforms the traditional search experience by moving beyond the outdated "ten blue links" approach popularized by Google, instead delivering precise, context-rich answers directly. This innovation streamlines finding what you need, providing a seamless and more intuitive experience that quickly connects you with relevant information, not just a list of links.

And get this: the more you use Perplexity, the better it gets. The engine learns from each interaction and fine-tunes its future responses to better align with your specific questioning style. So now instead of having whoever paid the highest price to show up at the top of your “search” result, you have your old pal Perplexity there to get right to the source.

You can use Perplexity on your desktop or mobile – IMO their iPhone app is the true killer product.

I’d love to hear from you as you begin to dive into this new product!! Reply back to this email with your own Perplexity experiences, or reach out to us on socials @aifornormalpeople.

Until tomorrow…

Onward,

Brady Fowlkes
