What is it and why is it important?

Happy Monday norms. When you start doing your own research, there are things easily glossed over that you don’t recognize you don’t quite understand. Things you might have assumed you know. And you know what happens when we assume…

Today we’re talking about a topic that is sure to make you the smartest person at the water cooler on your break in 30 minutes

📚️ What is it? 📚️

Generative ai is a term that describes when an ai takes a prompt and creates something new out of nothing. Content created could be images, sentences, sounds, songs, and even 3D Models.

It’s able to do this by learning from data sets previously given to generate new outcomes; outcomes we mere humans have not yet created.

⌛️ Implications ⌛️

Generative Ai can do a bunch of really cool things for you if you let it:

  • Generate content for any aspect of social media or marketing (watch out for deep fakes which would be a form of generative ai depending on the prompt given)

  • Design new physical products based on desired outcomes given in the prompt

  • Generate new hypothesis and experiments whether in the 2D or 3D world

  • SAVE YOU TIME

“How do I learn how to use canva?” // “Do you think this marketing tool will convert?” // “how do I get this photo into the size I need?” // “What do you think will happen if we add this type of data into the data set?”

Questions at some point or another we’ve asked ourselves at least once. If you learn to use ai, it will save you headache to become better in other areas.

Here are a few examples of how people are using this to encourage you to get started!

  • The cover art we do everyday for these newsletters with the pixelated monkeys are all generative ai

  • Amper Music and Jukebox use generate ai to create music for shows and jingles

  • Dalle-3 can spin you up an image in a second that looks like Picasso himself drew it up

💭 Why does this Matter? 💭

Some of the first places you’re seeing this play out is in social media.

TikTok and Instagram are using generative ai to create an experience on your feed that is solely catered to you alone. It’s something that as you scroll and scroll and scroll, they’re constantly taking in data about what you like and what you don’t like.

That information is being processed to the model to continue to learn and push out content that you do like.

That doesn’t mean instagram or TikTok is creating content. That means that instagram and TikTok are creating rules around you as a user to best entice you to spend your time and money on the platform.

And that’s what I’m getting at.

All companies, if leveraging ai correctly, will be able to give a highly curated personalized feel to their platform or product specifically for the end user. The goal is always to be more personalized and tailor to the end customer and that’s why generative ai matters.

Platforms and products will get to know you as the end user or consumer better and better.

In 2010, you were taught not to worry about the bugs of your MVP. Push it out and a core audience will latch on to help you improve it.

Within the last 3-4 years, that opportunity in software has gone away. If you’re releasing an MVP that has more than a few bugs, your “Core Userbase” will tell you to kick rocks. Software is so much more accessible - why would they waste their time on a product that looks like you spent a day and a half on.

This will be the same for generative ai.

For platforms that are into giving you information, if (for instance) the feed isn’t as customized for a personal experience as many of the other big players (x, IG, TikTok etc), that platform (in today’s world) stands an even less of a chance to make it in the market today then where it would have at 10-15 years ago compared to other products then.

TLDR: if you aren’t using generative ai to curate a personalized experience for your customer, it will get increasingly harder and harder to compete.
